Philadelphia is mourning alongside one of its own as Sheinelle Jones, a former co-anchor of “Good Day Philadelphia” and current Today show host, faces the loss of her husband, Uche Ojeh. Ojeh passed away at age 45 after a battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.
Jones, who grew up in Philadelphia and became a familiar face in local news before heading to New York, met Ojeh as a student at Northwestern University. Their love story began when Jones, then a freshman, offered a campus tour to Ojeh, a visiting high school senior. That chance meeting blossomed into a 17-year marriage.

After eight years together, Ojeh proposed to Jones at their alma mater on a rainy day — a fitting backdrop for a couple whose love weathered life’s storms with grace and unity. They married in Philadelphia, at Rittenhouse Square’s Church of the Holy Trinity, surrounded by family and friends. The couple welcomed their first child, Kayin, in 2009, and twins Uche and Clara in 2012.
Ojeh, proud of his Nigerian heritage, was known for his warmth, humility and passion for family. He was a fixture at his children’s activities, a joyful presence in his church choir, and a steadfast supporter of Jones’ career and extra curriculars, inclduing cheering her on at the finish line of the New York Marathon.
The news of Ojeh’s passing was shared by Jones’ Today show colleagues, who spoke through tears of the sorrow felt for her and their three children. “Words cannot convey the sorrow we feel. Uche was an extraordinary individual whom we all cherished,” Savannah Guthrie said on air. “We want to take a moment to honor the remarkable man who was Sheinelle’s ideal partner in life.”
Jones has been away from the Today show since late 2024, caring for her husband and family during his final months. In January, she thanked viewers for their support, saying, “It’s not lost on me how lucky I am to have not only the love of my Today show family but also all of you. Your kindness means so much to me.”
