Two seriously injured after 18-wheeler crashes into 8 vehicles on I-77 near Mooresville: NCSHP

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — An accident involving a tractor-trailer has shut down Interstate 77 northbound in Iredell County on New Year’s Eve, according to North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The crash happened just before 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, on I-77 North near NC-150, north of Mooresville. The area is closed at Exit 36.

Troopers say an 18-wheeler struck about eight vehicles. Two people were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The expected impact on traffic is high. The interstate is projected to reopen by 7 p.m.

Detour: Drivers on I-77 North use Exit 36, right on NC-150, right on US-21 North to I-77.
