DENVER (KDVR) — Former President Donald Trump is set to speak in Aurora at the Gaylord Rockies Resort and Convention Center on Friday, and thousands of people are expected to attend.
Trump is expected to speak at around 1 p.m. at the resort that sits just 15 minutes away from the Denver International Airport. Whether you are attending the rally or catching a flight, be prepared for heavy traffic.
The city of Aurora has prepped for Trump’s arrival, and the Aurora Police Department expects 10,000 people to flock to the resort.
The department has officers controlling traffic along East 64th Avenue and the surrounding areas to assist with any congestion.
What airport travelers should know
If you are headed to the airport, be sure to leave earlier than you normally would as traffic on Peña Boulevard may be backed up. Trump is expected to land at DIA sometime before his rally, so be aware that roads may be closed temporarily while he is transported to the resort.
The Commerce City Police Department said the rally will also impact traffic on Tower Road and 81st Avenue. If you are not attending the rally, please avoid the area.
Attendees should plan ahead
If you are making your way to the event, Aurora police ask that you be patient and use off-site parking lots and free shuttle services to the resort.
“Please be respectful of homes and businesses nearby. Do not park in the surrounding neighborhoods. Never block any roadways, driveways, or fire hydrants,” said Aurora police on X.
It is unclear how long Trump will stay in Colorado, but it is not expected to be all day as he is scheduled to speak in Reno, Nevada at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
