Helping readers understand Minnesota – MinnPost

Everyone wants something from you — your time, your money, your attention. The important question isn’t whether they want it, but what they want it for. At MinnPost, we pride ourselves on being a trusted resource for Minnesotans by covering multiple aspects of our state, from government and policy to arts and health equity. Part of being this resource means that we’d like to have your time and attention — so that we can help you better understand this wonderful state.

As a transplant (I relocated here after a stint in Arizona), reading MinnPost before I started working here gave me a great primer on what I could expect after moving to Minnesota. And it’s not just me — we’ve had people write in about how our work helps them better understand a variety of things, from cannabis legislation to LGBTQIA+ issues.

Our guiding principle is to give you the facts that matter and how they impact Minnesotans – the most recent examples coming from our coverage of the assassination of House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and the attempted assassination of Sen. John Hoffman – an event that shocked communities across the state and will have lingering impacts.

As MinnPost moves into the future, we’ll do this the way we always have: as an independent nonprofit. We aren’t beholden to a particular party or parent organization, and when we do take funding from other organizations for specific projects, they have no say in editorial decisions. There’s no paywall on our work, and there never will be.

If our work has helped you understand some facet of Minnesota – your neighbors, the legislature, the arts and theater scene — will you please consider renewing your support of MinnPost today?

P.S. The member drive ends tomorrow and our fundraising team says we still need 76 more new or upgraded sustaining members to reach our goal. Will you start a monthly gift today and help sustain our independent newsroom?
