Forecast: Chilly, breezy and a chance for early morning scattered showers

It’s Memorial Day weekend but it sure doesn’t feel like it.

Sunday’s weather will mirror the start of the holiday weekend in Chicagoland: chilly and breezy.

Scattered showers are possible early Sunday morning, but skies are expected to clear by early afternoon. A lakefront breeze will keep highs around low to mid 60s.

Monday brings dry conditions, but cloudy skies and continued breezes will hold temperatures in the upper 60s.

Beach forecast

The city’s beaches have officially opened for the season, but use caution water temperatures are on the colder side, around 56 degrees.

Those who swim in water between 35 and 60 degrees could suffer from “cold water shock,” which is when the cold water triggers an involuntary gasp and can cause swallowing of water or drowning.
