Rockies endure worst shutout loss in franchise history

DENVER (KDVR) — The Colorado Rockies are breaking all of the wrong records this season.

On Saturday night, the Rockies suffered the worst shutout loss in franchise history.

Upon the completion of the second of three games played at Coors Field against the San Diego Padres over the weekend, the Rockies have been outscored 9-34, with one game left to go on Sunday.

The worst part about that statistic is that 21 of those runs came in a shutout loss on Saturday. An eight-run fourth inning was the highest-scoring inning of the night.

The previous-worst shutout loss in Rockies’ history was in 1995 against the Florida Marlins, who won 17-0.

The worst-ever loss the Rockies have posted was two years ago in a 2023 game against the Los Angeles Angels, who won 25-1.

The Rockies are now tied with the 1988 Baltimore Orioles for the worst 39-game start in MLB history, going 6-33 to start the year. The team is also on an eight-game losing streak.

Backup catcher Jacob Stallings got to pitch for a couple of innings in the loss.
