Denver car dealership victim of daytime tire theft

DENVER (KDVR) — A southeast Denver car dealership was the victim of a tire theft in broad daylight.

Surveillance video from Feb. 17 shows the suspect pulling into the back of the dealership lot, in the receiving area, during normal operating hours and loading four new tires into the back of a vehicle.

The vehicle has a temporary Colorado license plate posted on the back window.

A spokesperson for the dealership says the incident happened at about 11:45 a.m. He said that Denver police have been notified and that the same man has come back three or four times since to attempt the same crime, but has been unsuccessful.

“Just the audacity of doing something like that, in the middle of a day, in a busy business, like this,” said the spokesperson, “is just crazy to me.”

The dealership and the spokesperson have asked to remain anonymous.

The four Michelin tires are valued at $800. The dealership spokesperson said he has been told that dealerships in the Colorado Springs area may have also been targeted.
