Photos: Union Pacific train, semitrailer collide in Aurora leading to minor injuries

DENVER (KDVR) — A semitrailer and a Union Pacific train collided Wednesday afternoon near the intersection of North Peterson Road and U.S. 36 in Aurora, near Bennett and Watkins.

The 18-wheeler was traveling north on Peterson Road at about 3:30 p.m., Aurora Fire Rescue reported, when the rear of the trailer collided with an eastbound train.

The force of the collision caused the trailer to flip onto its side, detaching it from the tractor and leaving portions of the semitrailer on both sides of the tracks.

The train was not derailed by the crash, AFR reported. The driver of the semitrailer suffered minor injuries from the crash and was transported to a local hospital by a Bennett-Watkins Fire Rescue crew.

The train tracks were closed temporarily while crews assessed damages from the crash, which included the semitrailer, semi-tractor and train.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
