Crews were battling a vegetation fire that has burned 20 acres near Otay Mountain with the potential to be an extended incident, officials said Wednesday night.
The fire was reported around 7:15 p.m. near the mountain north of the U.S.-Mexico border, according to Cal Fire San Diego.
A caller from Chula Vista informed the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department of seeing a group of vehicles atop the mountain setting off fireworks, which may have started the fire, FOX 5 reported.
The sheriff’s department was working to locate the possible suspects.
