McKenzie Junction partially reopens after rockslide

CUSTER COUNTY, Colo. (KXRM) — McKenzie Junction at the intersection of Highway 96 and Highway 165 in Custer County has partially reopened to traffic following a rockslide on Sunday, Dec. 29.

According to the Custer County Sheriff’s Office, the intersection partially reopened on Tuesday, Dec. 31. Cars are currently permitted that are traveling from Hwy 165 to westbound Hwy 96. Cars heading east on Hwy 96 can turn to go south on Hwy 165 to Rye.

Hwy 96 remains closed east to Wetmore. CCSO said the Colorado Department of Transportation and maintenance crews will continue working to clear the rockslide throughout the New Year’s holiday.
